Do I need a doctor’s appointment before starting physical or occupational therapy?
In most cases, no. Texas allows direct access, meaning you can begin physical or occupational therapy without a physician referral. However, some insurance plans may require a referral for coverage. If needed, we can help coordinate with your physician to ensure a seamless start to care.
What do I need to know about my first visit?
Initial assessment includes a thorough medical history, a movement assessment as well as mobility and posture tests, and setting goals in conjunction with your therapist. Based on this information, we design an individual treatment plan that is tailored to your needs. We might begin hands-on therapy on the first appointment.
Is it too early to begin therapy?
Therapy begins with assessment. We meet you where you are. In some cases we are simply removing post-op dressings and addressing wounds, swelling, and/or pain. If you are being referred immediately after a surgery or injury, please don’t hesitate to call us for reassurance and details about what will take place during your assessment.
How do I know how long I will need therapy?
The length of time varies depending on the patient and the condition. Some patients notice improvements in their strength and mobility, as well as pain after a couple of weeks while others might benefit from longer-term programs. Specialized Techniques
Our therapists utilize advanced, evidence-based techniques designed to restore mobility, improve strength, and enhance functional independence. Through personalized treatment methods, we focus on reducing pain, improving overall function, and helping patients safely return to their daily activities
01
Dry Needling
Dry needling is a targeted technique where thin, sterile needles are inserted into muscle trigger points to release tension, reduce pain, and improve blood flow. Whether addressing shoulder stiffness, knee issues, or widespread tightness, it helps restore mobility and function across the body—often providing quick relief when combined with other therapies.
02
Manual Therapy
Our hands-on manual therapy uses skilled manipulation, joint mobilization, and soft tissue techniques to ease pain, increase range of motion, and correct movement patterns. It’s gentle yet effective for conditions affecting the upper or lower body—helping you move freely and recover faster without invasive methods.
03
Balance Therapy
Balance Therapy focuses on improving stability, coordination, strength, and confidence in a safe, controlled environment, reducing the fear of falling while retraining the body to walk or climb safely. Here at NBHPT we have the necessary equipment including parallel bars and various stair configurations.
